The client had a vision for a mobile-first platform, which they put forward for the use of users to book in easy terms local logistics services, which include moving furniture, assembling items, or shipping packages. We removed the issues that came with the legacy service providers. To make this a reality at Melonleaf, we developed a rich-feature mobile app, which we built using modern cross-platform technology, which in turn gave us the ability to present consistent performance on Android and iOS devices.

The app has a simple onboarding process, GPS-based driver tracking, real-time order management, smart matching algorithms, and secure payment options. Also, we have both a separate customer and driver interface for job assignment and delivery reports. From log in to service, the experience is tuned for ease of use, speed, and satisfaction. We designed the app to grow with demand, to support geographical expansion and to be a base for future feature releases.

Challenges

On Demand Connection Between Customers and Drivers

They did not want a system that required customers to use the phone or fill out many forms; instead, they went for a mobile app-based solution that would have the drivers located, paired up, and sent out immediately. Melonleaf put together a real-time match-up system that uses geolocation and availability of the drivers’ information to see which driver is nearest to the pickup point and to assign them. This in turn reduced delays, cut down on idling time, and improved service delivery.

Scalable, Secure, and Fast Payment System Integration

Another issue we had was that of security and completion of transactions within the app for our users, and at the same time we had to see to it that our drivers were paid fairly and promptly. We integrated Stripe, a PCI-compliant payment gateway, into the app, which in turn allowed for payment via cards, wallets, and other digital means. Also, we introduced automated issues of invoices and e-receipts together with driver payment schedule through the linked wallet system. That which we did made the full payment process open, secure, and efficient for all parties.

Live Tracking ETA Updates

Through the use of the Google Maps API and Firebase, their users are able to track their assigned driver in real time.
