The current recommendation systems were based on rules and were not dynamic, so they could not accommodate the behavior and preferences of students and could not result in high engagement and irrelevant content recommendations.

Even though the data on student interaction was generated, it was not captured and processed effectively, which made it impossible to implement actionable insights and offer personalization.

There were also no machine learning models to dynamically customize learning paths, resulting in a one-size-fits-all experience that was ineffective in responding to the needs of both individual learners.

The students became less engaged, the rate of course completion decreased, and their overall satisfaction with the platform was lowered because of irrelevant recommendations and the absence of personalization.
Implementation of Scalable Data Pipelines
An efficient data engineering architecture with Databricks and Apache Spark was created around which data on interaction with students was ingested, processed, and converted in real time. It allowed us to smoothly process big-scale behavioral data and provided high performance and reliability.
ML-Based Recommendation Engine Development
Python-based machine learning models were created to form an advanced recommendation engine in which the user activities, courses’ history, and interaction trends are examined. The models were trained and operated with the help of MLflow with the aim of constantly optimizing them and achieving better recommendations.
