PrimeRX and Salesforce Integration
The client was seeking integration of their third-party prescriptions and shipment platform, PrimeRX, with Salesforce so that they can manage their information at a central location and have a better grasp of the information in their patient portal.

Compatibility with Non-HL7 Formats
Since Salesforce does not benefit from native support of HL7 in Sales Cloud, the client demanded that the native integration be able to support more structured data formats, e.g., CSV, XML, or JSON, to provide smooth data handling during the conversion and transferring.

QuickBooks Data Consolidation in Salesforce
The financial information associated with prescriptions and being maintained in QuickBooks had to be smoothly represented in Salesforce so that all the information points of interest could be gathered on a single platform with the purpose of monitoring the activities.

Challenges

HL7 Format incompatibility

The PrimeRX prescription data was as per the HL7 standards but not supported in Salesforce Sales Cloud. This was a big hit in direct mapping and integration of data.

Disjointed Data on Systems

The prescription and financial data were scattered on many platforms, which resulted in inefficiency, duplication of data, and absence of a single truth source of patient and delivery data.

Lack of Patient Portal Visibility

As a result of data fragmentation, neither real-time nor correct information about prescriptions could be shown at the Salesforce-powered patient portal, lowering user engagement and the efficiency of the administrative work.

Scattered Financial insights

Financial records that were based on prescriptions could not be reported comprehensively, and financial monitoring could not be done in real time as QuickBooks was run outside the Salesforce.

Solutions

SFTP-based Middleware Integration
SFTP-secured middleware was configured for the interconnection between PrimeRX and Salesforce that would guarantee encrypted exchange of data as well as deal with the security issues related to API.

Automated Record Insertion
Middleware-based custom automation was built to integrate with the Apex-based programs configured as triggers in Salesforce to parse, transform, and insert data into related objects without the intervention of a human being.

Deduplication layer Implemented
A dedicated dump object was created in Salesforce to temporarily hold incoming data. Custom validation rules and deduplication logic were implemented to ensure only clean records were pushed into main Salesforce objects.

QuickBooks Data Integration
Financial information of prescriptions in QuickBooks was purposefully extracted, mapped, and configured on Salesforce using conditional logic and provided a unified health and billing view of all information in a single space.

Conclusion

This integration project helped to combine important systems, PrimeRX and Salesforce, within a scalable, secure, and automated infrastructure of a pharmaceutical company. The challenges raised by HL7 were resolved by translating the data format into those that could be interpreted by the receiving end and by utilizing an SFTP middleware that is secured to bridge the gap. The validation of PrimeRX Data Deduplication and insertion in Salesforce in real time were serving to improve the efficiency and patient experience of the operations. The data from QuickBooks (financial) was synchronized on the basis of prescription events, allowing for a centralized view.

This project completed manual work, reduced data silos, and allowed our client to use the single platform on Salesforce to perform clinical and financial decision-making. The solution also had the flexibility of scaling up in the future or adding other sources of data, and so it promises value into the future as well.
